PSG looks set to miss out on the signing of Dimitar Berbatov after Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson dismissed reports linking the striker with a move.
Recent reports suggested that the future of the Bulgarian was unresolved after falling out of favour with the United boss towards the end of last season.
Big-spending PSG were reportedly interested in signing last year’s joint-top Premier League goal scorer.
Despite netting 20 goals in the league, Berbatov appeared to be left in the shadows of fellow strikers Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez. The 30-year-old was most notably left out of the squad for the UEFA Champions League final against Barcelona in May.
But despite the other striking options at his disposal, with Michael Owen, Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda all waiting in the wings, Ferguson is adamant Berbatov remains in his plans.
"It's nonsense," said Ferguson. "There's absolutely no interest or encouragement from us either."
Following United’s friendly win over Marseille on Tuesday, Ferguson appeared to imply he would sell Berbatov to PSG, but the manager says he misunderstood the question.
He added: "I thought she was asking about our chances for the season."
Berbatov is likely partner Rooney up front in the Community Shield against local rivals Manchester City on Sunday in place of Hernandez, who is recovering from concussion.
