Richard Tanner in The Daily Express writes..David De Gea admits he needs to improve - and quickly - after his Community Shield nightmare for Manchester United. David De Gea was in no-man’s land for Joleon Lescott’s header and failed to react quickly enough to keep out Edin Dzeko’s long-range shot as Manchester City initially stunned Manchester United at Wembley. “I have to adapt quickly and improve on the whole of my game,” he said. “The two goals we conceded in the first half stopped us in our tracks but in the second half we were able to claw it back. And that’s the important thing. I’m very happy about the victory. I don’t think I will have problems getting to grips with the game in England. Football is football in any country.” Defender Chris Smalling says De Gea, 20, showed character in the second half. “He’ll learn from things like that,” said Smalling. “He made some great saves, so it’s good to see he’s not going to be down about it.”
Elsewhere, the Independent claim Gabriel Obertan will join Newcastle United and quote Magpies boss Alan Pardew on the move: "I wanted to bring pace and he will bring us genuine pace," he said.
There's also plenty of praise for Tom Cleverley in the papers. In the Daily Mail, former Reds Reserves boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says: "He is the type of player you want in every squad. There are talented players and then players like Tom who have everything. Tom is a class act as a person and a great player to have in a group."
